Our Team

We have built a team of specialists from the petroleum, software and product industries, ensuring we deliver on our promise of disrupting the E&P software scene. Meet a few of them below.

Luke Johnson
Chief Executive Officer

Luke is a geologist with over 15 years international oilfield experience across various technical and management roles. Luke began his career in Australia as a research scientist, before joining Chevron Australia in 2005. Within Chevron, Luke’s technical ability and business acumen had him leading the Southern Africa Strategic Business unit reservoir management team by the age of 30, comprising petrophysicists, geophysicists, geologists and data management professionals.

Luke left Chevron to develop his own opportunities, eventually founding and seed funding Cognitive Geology in Scotland, with the intention of developing pragmatic software solutions to pain points he encountered in his career.

Dr. Lucy MacGregor
Chief Technology Officer

Lucy joined Cognitive Geology as CTO in April 2019. Before, Lucy was the Chief Technology Officer of RSI, leading the company’s technical group which specialized in the analysis and interpretation of seismic, well log and marine electromagnetic (EM) data and in the integration of these data types for improved reservoir characterization. Lucy has over seventeen years’ experience in developing and delivering new technology to the oil and gas industry, and has particular expertise in intellectual property protection and strategy.

Lucy has a PhD from the University of Cambridge for research in the field of controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) methods.

Our Culture

Great companies evolve from positive and effective cultures.

Cognitive Geology, like any company, has its own personality. Ours is defined by four cultural pillars: ambition, curiosity, invention and collaboration.

drawn heads

We’re an innovation-driven enterprise meaning if we don’t invent, we disappear. Our customers need new solutions to old problems – we’re here to deliver them.

We support ambition – no need to be content here.

One of our core beliefs is that innovation springs from crazy ideas. We want an open culture that asks why more often than says this is how it’s done.

We work together to find genius.

Working together is everything to us. We have one rule: you can’t make yourself a cup of coffee, unless you make one for someone else too.

Great companies grow from great teams.

We don’t hide the fact that we’re an ambitious company. There’s a tremendous opportunity for us to pursue, if we’re only willing to reach out and take it.

We believe everything can be done better.
